In this class we will discuss seven herbs – Anise Hyssop, Ashwagandha, Calendula, Marshmallow, Lemon balm and Tulsi (Holy Basil). You will learn how to grow them, when and how to harvest them and what to do with them after the harvest. We will discuss their medicinal benefits for your health and well-being and how to make plant medicine out of them. This will include how to dry the herbs for teas, how to make herbal tinctures and herbal oils.
All of these certified organic medicinal herbs will be available for sale, along with many others at the River Market Co-op on May 16th and 17th.

‘Growing Herbs and Herb Farming’
at the Women’s Environmental Institute
Saturday April 8th from 10am-3pm
This is comprehensive class on herb farming. I’ll track the process from from seeding in the greenhouse, transplanting out, tending to, harvesting and storing. Included will be specifics for successful germination, discussion of stratification and scarification, up-potting, when to plant into ground, sun/soil preferences, some companion planting tips, natural pest management along with harvesting, drying for teas, storing, medicinal benefits of the plants we will be discussing and more. WEI will provide seeds, potting soil, trays and a heated space for the hands-on seeding session of Anise Hyssop, Ashwagandha, Calendula, Lemon Balm, Marshmallow, Skullcap and Tulsi. Participants will have an opportunity to sample some teas, herbal salves and plant extracts.
